Welcome

Rick Jones - K6RJ Welcome to the K6RJ website! My name is Rick Jones. I have been a licensed amateur radio operator since 1973 when I received my first callsign, WL7HQV, when my father was stationed at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska.

Those were fun times and it was great being newly licensed and DX at the same time. Those days are long since past and the business of life seems to rarely allow time for operating. However, I do enjoy chasing DX and participating in the occassional contest. Please give me a call, if you hear me on the air!

Ham Radio is Contantly Changing

The great thing about ham radio is that it is contstantly changing. The hobby is always presenting us with new challenges and new technologies. It never gets stale! In the past few years I've begun a foray into software-defined radios or SDR. I started with an inexpensive SDRTec WonderRadio, then upgraded to a FlexRadio SDR-1000, then a Flex-1500 and now, a Flex-3000. I must admit that I absolutely love this radio. I'll talk more about it later. I still have a trusty old Ten Tec Triton IV ready as a back up rig, should it be needed.

One of the things I want to do on this website is to let visitors know and understand the SDR experience. It really is nothing like you've experienced before and it is the future of amateur radio. If what you read on these pages encourages you to investigate SDR further, then I will have accomplished my goal. Have fun exploring my site!
